Instructions for Use – For best results, 28 day treatment cycles are recommended
- 1 Clean the wound in the usual way but do not dry completely. Gently press a Cutimed® Sorbact® dressing against the wound surface to remove superficial bacterial contamination. Either side up is fine for all the green dressings.
- 2a If the wound is deep, place a Cutimed® Sorbact® Swab, Ribbon Gauze or a counted number of Tupfers into it so that their surfaces are in direct contact with the wound bed. Cover with an absorbent Cutimed* Sorbact* Dressing Pad (green side down), or exudate-managing dressing of your choice, if required. Where possible, leave a part of the dressing sticking out of a cavity wound so that it can be changed easily.
- 2b If the wound is more shallow, line it with an unfolded Cutimed® Sorbact® Swab.
- 3 Fix the dressing with a secondary dressing or if using the dressing pad fix with a tape, a bandage, or a film dressing.
- 4 The frequency of dressing change depends on the amount of exudate and the contamination of the wound. Dressings may be changed daily or stay in place for up to seven days in a moist wound under compression. On average they stay in place for 2-3 days. In wounds showing clinical signs of infection the dressing may be changed more often, as the local protocol requires.
- 5 When the wound is clean and granulating, it is recommended to change to other types of suitable wound dressings (ie continue the treatment with a dressing for moist wound healing).
Contraindications / Recommendations for use
- Do not use Cutimed® Sorbact® on dry wounds, because its efficacy might be impaired, and to minimise any risk of the dressing adhering to the wound bed.
- When using on very low exuding wounds an amorphous hydrogel may be used at the same time to hydrate the wound bed. Cutimed® Sorbact® Gel dressings are available for your convenience for this purpose. Please contact your local representative if you would like to try these.
- Perform wound inspections in line with local protocols to make sure that Cutimed® Sorbact® can be removed before the wound dries out.
- Do not use in combination with ointments and creams as the binding effect of Cutimed® Sorbact® is impaired by a treatment where fatty elements are also present.
- The dressings may be used on any type of patient.
Side effects
There are no side effects and no risks of cytotoxic or irrative reactions.
Due to the purely physical interaction there is no risk of initiating or enhancing the development of resistances of micro-organisms.
All dressings are sterile as long as the peel pouch is sealed and undamaged.
